The Holistic Dynamic Theory presumes that the complete individual is always being inspired by one need and that individuals have the possibility to expand in the direction of mental health, specifically, “self actualization” (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). To reach self actualization, individuals should fulfill lower level needs like love, esteem, hunger, and safety (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Just after they are moderately fulfilled in every one of these needs can they attain self actualization (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Thus Maslow’s perspective of motivations are: the method is holistic, denoting that not any one function is motivated; motivation is generally intricate, denoting that an individual’s behavior can surface from many distinct causes; individuals are constantly motivated by one need or another (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013); every person everywhere is motivated by the essential needs. The way wherein individuals of diverse cultures attain food, construct shelters, convey friendship, and so on can differ extensively, however, the basic necessities for food, friendship, and safety are general for everyone (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Maslow believed the lower level needs of the hierarchy on needs should be fulfilled before the higher level needs to become motivators (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The five needs are known as “conative needs,” denoting that these needs have a motivational nature. Lower level needs should be fulfilled first: physiological needs, safety needs (cannot be overly fulfilled), without being met, could lead to fundamental apprehension; belonging needs & love: initially, if sufficiently met, these individuals have self-assurance because they are acknowledge by people who are notable (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Second, this group has not known belongingness and love, and they are not capable of giving love. Last, these individuals who have obtained belongingness and love receive it in small doses (powerfully motivated for it). Self-esteem needs (comprise competence, understanding that people respect them, confidence, and self-respect (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). An example of Maslow’s neurotic needs is generally reactive; specifically, they act as reparation for unfulfilled needs (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). For instance, an individual who does not fulfill protection needs might expand a powerful urge to accumulate finance (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The accumulative urge is a “neurotic need” (Fiest, Fiest, 2013). Likewise, a neurotic individual might be capable of establishing an intimate rapport with another individual, but that rapport might be a “neurotic one” that leads to a pathological rapport rather than authentic love (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). However, “self-actualization needs” are when lower level need are fulfilled; individuals continue to the next level automatically (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Hence, once the need for respect is fulfilled they do not continually advance to the level of “self-actualization” (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Should one accept B-Values: justice, truth, beauty, and other values; comprise a desire to become a productive person, self-fulfillment, and attaining one’s own potential (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). For instance, a self-actualizing individual might be invited by friends as their guest to dinner (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Eating satisfies a “physiological need;” but simultaneously, the guest might be fulfilling love, esteem, protection, and self-actualization needs (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The psychoanalytic social theory Horney described basic anxiety and how basic animosity could lead to apprehension; she gave an illustration of a young female with suppressed hostility, and how it led her to become jealous of the man (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The young female was walking on an unsafe mountain path, she unexpectedly experience a serious “anxiety attack”(Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The anxiety outcome from an apparent improper but conscious urge to push the young man over the brink of the mountain (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Horney’s “social psychoanalytic theory” offers great viewpoints on, humanities nature, yet it lacks present research that may support her hypothesis (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). The strong point of Horney’s hypothesis is her clear depiction of the “neurotic personality” (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Horney’s inclusive portrayal of neurotic personalities offers a great framework for comprehending unhealthy individuals’ (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Nevertheless, her almost complete interest with neurotics is a grave restriction to her theory (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Horney’s description of the healthy personality is unclear and not specifically explained (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Horney believed that individuals’ by their nature desire to make an effort toward self-realization, but she proposed no lucid image of what self-realization could do (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Her hypothesis is very vague concerning its ability to produce research and to yield to the decisive factor of “falsifiability” (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Assumptions from this hypothesis do not simply produce testable theories and thus deficient in falsifiability and verifiability (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Maslow’s pursuit for the “self-actualizing” individual did not stop with his experimental research (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Years later, he would often cogitate about self-actualization with some proof to confirm his assumptions (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Though Maslow was criticized, he was not concerned about science. Maslow’s theory on this criterion was rated a little above average (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Maslow’s theory on the criterion of falsifiability was rated low (Fiest, Fiest, & Roberts, 2013). Investigators could not confirm or falsify Maslow’s method of discovering self-actualizing individuals.’ References: Sanderson, A. (1998, Apr 19). Work: Guru guide Abraham Maslow.
