Continuing on from last week: But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold. So, the captain went down after him. “How can you sleep at a time like this?” He shouted. “Get up and pray to your God! Maybe he will pay attention to us and spare our lives.” Then the crew cast lots to see which of them had offended the gods and caused the terrible storm. When they did this the lots identified Jonah as the culprit. When the crew cast lots, they were relying on their superstition to give them the answer. Their system worked but only because God intervened to let Jonah know that he couldn’t run away. “Why has this awful storm come down on us?” They demanded. “Who are you? What is your line of work? What country are you from? What is your nationality?” Jonah answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord the God of heaven who made the sea in the land.” The sailors were terrified when they heard this, for he had already told them he was running away from the Lord. “Oh? Why did you do it?” They groaned. And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him, “what should we do to you to stop the storm?” “Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said, “and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.” Well at least he was honest. In this segment, God is showing us that you cannot run from God. He knows where you are no matter how much you hide, he will always know where you are. Jonah knew that God had a specific job for him but he didn’t want to do it. Tarshish could be one of any number of Western ports in Nineveh which was toward the east. Jonah decided to go as far west as he could. Thanks for stopping by, you guys are awesome! Until next time Lord's willing.

Hey guys thanks for stopping by. I know I said I was going to release a new book earlier about poems and short stories but I have run into a snag. Editing has been a beast! And it has set me behind for a bit, so I will postpone at this time. But it will be out soon. Sorry I forgot to mention it earlier, I have been really busy. So here's a daily quote for you guys and thanks for stopping by you guys are awesome!
So lets talk about an example of God’s Grace, His mercy and favor. Jonah is a perfect example of this. Jonah’s name means. What a contradiction because he was the complete opposite of his name meaning. He was judgmental and hardheaded. Jonah was devoted to his people, yet he hated the Assyrians, the enemy of Israel. So let’s explain why Jonah disobeyed God and did not want to preach to the Assyrians. To give you some history, Assyria was a great but evil Empire and it was Israel’s most dreaded enemy. The Assyrians flaunted their power before God and the world through numerous acts of heartless cruelty. Yet in the midst of their cruelty, God wanted to save the Assyrians because he loved them and cared for them and wanted them to turn from their wicked ways. This is an example of God’s grace. No matter who you are or what you have done God will still forgive you, extending his grace to you hoping you will change your ways. So, in the first chapter of Jonah the heading reads Jonah forsakes his mission. He runs from the Lord. The Lord gave this message to Jonah saying, get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are. but Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish. God told Jonah to go to Nineveh but he didn’t listen, Nineveh was about 500 miles away North East of Israel to warn them of judgment and to declare that the people could receive mercy and forgiveness if they repented. But Jonah ran in the opposite direction, in a literal sense. Tarshish which is in southern Spain was 2000 miles away. Talking about runaway right? Since Jonah was hardheaded and did not listen to God, God took matters into his own hands. As Jonah sailed away on the boat, the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. The desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw cargo overboard to lighten the ship. Continuing on from last week: Now in the same chapter of Ephesians starting at the first verse it reads: Made Alive with Christ 1Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world.a He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Now isn’t that beautiful, God’s grace saved us and because of His grace and favor, He forgives us when we mess up and are hardheaded. Thanks for stopping by you guys are awesome! Until next time.
